How to Put Action into Your Copy

The call to action is a very important part of your copy that makes the reader want to (take action) do something. It can be conveyed in several ways including in the form of a declarative or imperative statement, or as a simple suggestion that instructs the reader what steps they should take next if they want to see a result.

When it comes to creating an effective call to action there are several steps that you can take to make sure that it will yield the desired results.

For those who have never written a call to action the first thing you should do is research some of the basic terms that are commonly used by other copywriters in your market. You can do this by looking at copy written by other people that are focusing on the same topic that you are writing about. This will give you a good idea of what will and will not work for your copy.

The second thing you should do is write content that leads your reader directly to the call to action. Make sure that it is written clearly so that your readers will know exactly what they have to do and how they should do it. Use key phrases such as “Join Now” or “Act Fast” to get them to take notice and then give your readers detailed instructions on what they must to do next.

Of course there are several strategies that you can use when it comes to writing a clear and concise call to action. For instance you can start with a well chosen verb and be sure to keep the subject and verb close together; for instance: “Ask your sales consultant for more details” is a standard that you may be familiar with.

The third thing you should do is place your (well written) call to action in several strategic places throughout the copy. This works especially well if there is a lot of copy on your page. In certain circumstances you can even place the call to action in other parts of the page like at the top, right after the introductory paragraph or off to the side, depending on how your page content is laid out.

The fourth thing you should do is make your copy as simple and direct as possible, so that your readers will know exactly what they are getting from your offer as soon as they begin reading. You will find that once you add a solid call to action to your copy you will begin to see results.

The simple fact is that a straight forward, powerful call to action can definitely make a difference and plays a vital role in the response you receive from your own copy.
