Quick Social Bookmarking Tip

If you have been online selling your wares for a while chances are that you know that social bookmarking sites that can be used to generate traffic. Basically what you to do is to bookmark your webpages or your articles in article directories so that they get linked by social bookmarking sites like Digg or Stumble Upon.

Now here is a little way that you can tweak this strategy.

Instead of just bookmarking your web pages or blog posts etc, look at what’s highly ranked in the social bookmarking sites first. Search for something related to your niche and when you find it, then write an article for your blog and bookmark it. Then go back to the post that is already highly ranked and add a comment to it that includes a link to your blog. That way, you get another quality back-link to your site and draw the visitors reading the highly ranked post to your website or blog. Hopefully, they will vote for your article, too and push your post up the social bookmarking site’s ladder, so to speak!

Quick Email Marketing Tip!

Email marketing is no different than any other type of
marketing, the same type of rules apply. Your main goal should
be to get your prospect to open, read and respond to your email.

Did you know that over 90% of emails sent will never be read!
Scary right!!

If you want to ensure that your emails are going to get opened
you should pay close attention to your subject line and make sure
that it announces your offer effectively.

Your subject line should do one thing only - get your reader to open
the message and read the first sentence
.

Personalizing the subject line with your prospects name is also
a good idea and try not to use to much hype. Once you get them
to open the email be sure to provide them with something of
value and chances are they will take you up on your offer.

Keep in mind that…if you become a resource to your readers then you
will see and increased response to your e-mail marketing efforts.

Writing Your Own Articles to Promote Your Business

I hope you’re getting ready for a fun filled weekend.

Today, I want to talk to a little bit about writing your own articles.
If you think you can’t write your own articles - think again.

Writing articles isn’t really that hard, especially when you realize
that you don’t have to write a 10 page essay and know that your
eighth-grade English teacher isn’t going to be grading your paper.
;)

As a matter of fact, the standard article used in article marketing
ranges anywhere from 300 to 800 words. With the average being
around 500.

As we’ve talked about before, using article marketing is a great
way to promote your business and once you decide to use articles
you will soon begin to see the impact it will have on all aspects of
your business including your reputation and your sales volume.

When you first get started is a good idea to keep a notebook with
you and start jotting down ideas as they occur. If you don’t you will
find that you forget your great ideas for articles, most likely never
to be remembered again.

When you’re deciding on the content for your new article, start with
a list of things that you know about your chosen topic, that other
people might like to know.  I guarantee that once you start jotting
down ideas you will be surprised to see how much you come up
with.

Remember, everybody is an expert at something. You are no
exception. So don’t even try to pull that ” I’m not an expert at
anything”, ploy with me!  After all you are an expert on your
business and you know the most about it. Now all you have to do
is share that knowledge in a way that catches the attention of your
potential readers.

Now, let’s talk about some of the great reasons that you should be
writing articles to promote your business.

- Article marketing is free.

We all know that advertising isn’t cheap. Every newspaper or
magazine ad you run costs you money. By spending just a little
extra time writing and submitting several articles a month, you
may be able to cut advertising costs down significantly.

- Article marketing brands  you and your business.

Have you ever wondered how some businesses seem to become
so well known in such a short amount of time? They’re getting their
name out there. They’re giving away something of value for free to
their potential customers. Your articles will brand your business
and make it a well-known name.

- Article marketing makes you an expert.

As we discussed above, if you write articles about the subjects
you know well, you’ll quickly become known as an expert in your
field. Do you run a website on fly fishing? Writing and submitting
fifty articles on fly fishing will show people that you know what
you’re talking about.

- Article marketing creates back links to your website.

Without getting into the technical details of this, back links to your
website are good and you’ll want as many of them as you can get.
Back links help boost your rankings in the search engines and as
an end result give your website more exposure.

If you get stuck don’t worry. Just ask yourself this simple question.
What do people want to know the most about what your business
has to offer?

With a little research, you should be able to come up with enough
material to write a whole series of articles that will answer the
questions and needs of your potential customers.

The simple fact of the matter is that article marketing works!

I don’t want to hear that you can’t write articles because you can.
Just take your time and use simple language. Try writing as if you
were having a conversation with your reader and then just let the
words flow. Don’t worry about mistakes, you can make changes
later. As matter-of-fact it’s a good idea to let your articles sit for a
day or two and then go back and read it again with fresh eyes.
That way, you  will be able to clearly see any changes that you
need to make.

Now, go and write some articles and see for yourself just how
easy this can be.

Have a great weekend,
Lisa

Are You Unknowingly Leaving Your Website Vulnerable?

Today, I want to talk a little bit about a basic security flaw that
can be disastrous for your website and your online business.

Did you know that you could be unknowingly giving people direct
access to all of the files inside your directory folders on your
website?

This is one of the most common mistakes that webmasters make
experienced an inexperienced alike. The good news is, it is actually
the easiest to fix.

To stop this from happening all you have to do is make sure that
each directory on your site contains an index file. By default, web
browsers, when directed to a directory look first of all for a file
named index.

If the browser does not encounter the index file, it will display the
entire directory in the form of a clickable navigation list, disclosing
all its contents for the world to see.

Try this little test.

Create a folder on your website and add some random files to it,
but don’t include an index file. Now type in the URL to the folder
that you just created. it should look something like this;
http://www.yoursite.com/random-folder.  What you’ll see is a list of
everything that you added to the folder. Now go back in and add
an index file, and you’ll notice the difference.

As you can see without the index file in place you are leaving your
precious and often restricted content wide open for the world to
see and even take whenever they feel like it.

Now let’s go over a few other basic security measures that you
should put in place to ensure the safety of the files on your
website.

As we discussed it is important to make sure that each directory
of your website contains an index file by renaming the default
page you want to be shown to index. It doesn’t matter what file
extension you use, whether it be html, htm, php, etc. It will work
as long as the file is named index.

If you don’t want to display any type of content from inside the
folder, say for instance in your image folder, then simply create
an empty index file. That way when your visitors arrive at the
directory, a blank page will be shown, but you will no longer be
displaying a directory listing. Another good tip is to provide a
message and a clickable link on that page to take your visitors
to another page on your website.

Another way that you can protect your folders and send your
visitors exactly where you want them to go is to create an index file
that contains a redirect code, so that your visitors will not even
notice that they ended up in the wrong place. There are several
ways that you can do this. The most common is a little snippet
of code that you place directly into your HTML. To find one that
works for you just do a quick search in your favorite search engine
for ‘redirect code’ and you will find several options Including
Javascript.

Keeping your website directory folders secure is especially
important if you have downloadable content that people are
supposed to pay for inside them, so it is a good idea not keep
your them in the same directory as the sales page. A better choice
would be to keep them in a separate, secure directory and set up
your payment processor to forward your customers to that
directory. This way you will be sure that only people who have
paid for the product will have access to it.

Doing business on the Internet doesn’t mean that you or your
website should have to fall victim to predators.  If you use simple
techniques to protect your directory folders it should help you
drastically reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your site and
save you unnecessary headaches and losses.
