Hello and welcome,

I love sharing simple tips and advice with you that can be implemented quickly to grow your business and this week’s tip is all about improving email open rates with foreshadowing.

We are going to talk about enticing your readers with a hint of what’s coming next.

Do your email open rates leave you scratching your head and wondering why people aren't excited to see what you have to say?

When it comes to keeping, your readers coming back for more there are plenty of tried and true strategies that you can try. One of my favorites is a little technique called foreshadowing and when you use in your email campaigns it can definitely help improve your open rates.

Chances are you’ve seen this used on news programs and talk shows. Right before the commercial break, the hosts announce what’s coming up next. They do this to keep you intrigued enough to sit through the commercial to see the next segment.

Another good example of foreshadowing...whats-next

is when magazines show images and headlines or short bullets of what’s coming in next month’s issue. Again, the point is to pique your interest and get you to either buy the next issue, or even better, buy a subscription.

This technique can be easily adapted for email marketing and it works like crazy. Towards the end of your email add a line or two about what’s coming in your next email.  Make sure to be vague, saying just enough to grab the reader’s attention.

money-tableFor instance, if you’re talking about why content marketing is so important and the next email is about content strategies to generate traffic, you may write something like this: “Keep an eye out for Monday’s email. We’ll talk about THE most important thing when it comes to an effective content marketing strategy. If you don’t get this right, you’re leaving money on the table.”

This works great if you publish a weekly newsletter. You can even try adding a section on what’s coming in the next issue like you see in many magazines. Keep it simple and whenever possible use images that draw attention to improve your results.

You can even take it a step further and get your subscribers to open a previously sent email. This works particularly well if you’re writing a series of emails on a related topic. Towards the beginning of your email mention something you covered in the last email, then move into today’s topic and then wrap it up with a little hint about what’s coming next.curious-reader

You don’t have to use foreshadowing in every single email. Use it when and where it makes sense. It also gives you a chance to pick up on in the subject line of your next email. Try using something like “As promised…” Even readers who missed your last email might be curious enough to open and see what you have for them.

When you begin using this technique make sure that you track and test your results, so you can tell if you are getting higher open rates and more importantly increased subscriber engagement.

Make sure you look for my next post. We will be talking more about how to use Instagram to grow your business!  See what I did there? 😉 😉

Hello and welcome,

I love sharing simple tips and advice that you can implement quickly to help your business grow and this week’s tip is all about building your email list!

You've probably heard more than one marketer talk about how the money is in your list and that you have to have build one if you want your business to be profitable, but do you really understand the real value in list building for your own business?mailing list

You do your research and decide to promote a specific product that offers a nice commission. Then you do a little test campaign, make a few sales and decide it’s a winner so you set up a website dedicated to just this one product. You spend time and money promoting it all over the place and a steady stream of sales starts to come in. All you focus on is driving traffic to your affiliate link, because it’s profitable.

Then one morning you wake up and find out that your income stream has dried up and affiliate marketing gone bustpayments have stopped and you have no idea what happened. You do a little digging, contact the company only to find out they have stopped selling that product, quit using affiliates or have completely gone out of business without any warning or notice at all!

Even though you may have sold hundreds of products to happy customers you have no idea who they are and how to contact them. Your income stream literally and completely disappeared over night leaving you back a t square one. Can you guess why?

Yes, it's because you didn't build your email list!

Now let’s look at this from a new perspective. You go through the entire process, pick a product, build a website and market it everywhere only this time you take it one-step further by adding a landing page with an opt-in form.

optin form example
"This little is form is your golden ticket to contact people who are interested in the types of products you are promoting"

All you have to do is get them to fill it out!

As visitors arrive on your site, you can lure them in with valuable information to presell the product or service you're promoting. You can do this by offering them a little gift as enticement in exchange for submitting the form. This could be a video review or a short report with more information about the product or an extra bonus if they purchase through your link.

These people are then added to your own private mailing list, separate from the company you're promoting and you can feel free to contact them anytime you have new information to share.

???????????????????????????????????????Now when you wake up to the news that your product is no longer available, the affiliate program is gone or the business has gone bust then you don’t worry about losing your customers, you simply replace product A with product a new similar product B. Then send out an email telling all your subscribers that you’ve discovered this great product that they will love.

Another great thing about building you list is that you can develop a lasting relationship with email profits your customers by emailing them regularly and providing them with great information. Once they know, like and trust you they will gladly follow your recommendations, which is one of the best ways to ensure a continuous stream of income for your business.

Hopefully this little post has helped you understand the importance of building your
email list!

Hello and welcome,

For an online business owner, a sales funnel is probably the most important marketing tool you have. And yet many entrepreneurs (both new and established) don't have a clear understanding of what a funnel is or how it works.

So what the heck is a funnel, anyway?

As I'm sure you can imagine, not taking the time to fully understand this critical part of your business can and will lead to fewer sales, lower profits, and ultimately, an unstable business.

The Simple Sales Funnel

At its most basic, a sales funnel consists of free content, which typically requires nothing of your readers. Many sales funnels begin with blog posts, YouTube videos, Facebook content, and other information readers can access at no cost. This is the “top” of your funnel.

Next, you’ll have an attractive offer that requires a very small “payment” of sorts, typically an email address. You’ve seen this type of offer on websites all over the internet, and probably even signed up for some. Hint, there is one on the right side of this page 😉

Your offer can be anything of value to your website visitors like a free ebook, report, how-to guide, video series, checklist, workbook, or other content that's made available to them in exchange for “opting in” to your email list.

Once a new person joins your mailing list, you’ll then present them with the free gift as well as a series emails that include more information and low-cost offers. Perhaps you have a low-priced ebook or a trial membership.

Customers who purchase your low-priced product move further down the funnel, and are presented with more, higher priced products. As they continue to buy, they move closer and closer to your top-end offers, which make up the bottom of your funnel.

Don't worry this whole process can be automated, so you only have to set it up once and it will keep working for you as long as you want it to.  If you want to know more about automated systems for your sales funnel check out this post. Its all about setting up an automated sales force.

How Your Funnel Works

If you imagine your funnel as looking like, well, a funnel, it’s easy to see that your free content at the top is consumed by the largest number of readers. Below that, your extreme low-cost item (available only for the cost of an email address) attracts a smaller subset of the true freebie seekers. Next, your low-priced products bring in yet a smaller group.

Finally, as you near the tip of the funnel, the loyalest fans and customers
will purchase your higher priced offers.

Your job, as the business owner, is to ensure that your funnel leads buyers naturally from the top, free offers all the way to the bottom. The more buyers you can keep in your funnel, the more money you'll make.

Most new and even established business owners can easily envision the top of the funnel, but if you truly want your business to grow, you must master the entire process, and that starts with understanding what a funnel really is and how it works.
