Hello and welcome to this week’s Monday Minutes. Each week in this series I am going to share simple tips and advice that you can implement quickly to help your business become more successful.

Monday Minutes

This week’s tip all about how a sales funnel works.

For an online business owner, a sales funnel is probably the most important marketing tool you have. And yet many entrepreneurs (both new and established) don't have a clear understanding of what a funnel is or how it works.

So what the heck is a funnel, anyway?

As I'm sure you can imagine, not taking the time to fully understand this critical part of your business can and will lead to fewer sales, lower profits, and ultimately, an unstable business.

The Simple Sales Funnel

At its most basic, a sales funnel consists of free content, which typically requires nothing of your readers. Many sales funnels begin with blog posts, YouTube videos, Facebook content, and other information readers can access at no cost. This is the “top” of your funnel.

Next, you’ll have an attractive offer that requires a very small “payment” of sorts, typically an email address. You’ve seen this type of offer on websites all over the internet, and probably even signed up for some. Hint, there is one on the right side of this page 😉

Your offer can be anything of value to your website visitors like a free ebook, report, how-to guide, video series, checklist, workbook, or other content that's made available to them in exchange for “opting in” to your email list.

Once a new person joins your mailing list, you’ll then present them with the free gift as well as a series emails that include more information and low-cost offers. Perhaps you have a low-priced ebook or a trial membership.

Customers who purchase your low-priced product move further down the funnel, and are presented with more, higher priced products. As they continue to buy, they move closer and closer to your top-end offers, which make up the bottom of your funnel.

Don't worry this whole process can be automated, so you only have to set it up once and it will keep working for you as long as you want it to.  If you want to know more about automated systems for your sales funnel check out Monday Minutes #2 its all about setting up an automated sales force.

How Your Funnel Works

If you imagine your funnel as looking like, well, a funnel, it’s easy to see that your free content at the top is consumed by the largest number of readers. Below that, your extreme low-cost item (available only for the cost of an email address) attracts a smaller subset of the true freebie seekers. Next, your low-priced products bring in yet a smaller group.

Finally, as you near the tip of the funnel, the loyalest fans and customers
will purchase your higher priced offers.

Your job, as the business owner, is to ensure that your funnel leads buyers naturally from the top, free offers all the way to the bottom. The more buyers you can keep in your funnel, the more money you'll make.

Most new and even established business owners can easily envision the top of the funnel, but if you truly want your business to grow, you must master the entire process, and that starts with understanding what a funnel really is and how it works.

Hello and welcome to this week’s Monday Minutes. Each week in this series I am going to share simple tips and advice that you can implement quickly to help your business become more successful.

Monday Minutes

This week’s tip all about getting a bigger impact with your Instagram photos.

Instagram is one of the largest social media platforms on the internet and in terms of engagement it’s one of the best. This powerful social network has an ability to inspire brand loyalty like almost no other platform thanks to its highly visual nature. Unlike other networks, you can use it to make your business, products and services look more glamorous and exciting thereby selling a dream to your audience.

When it comes to marketing on Instagram, your objective is to sell a dream!

You want to promote a certain lifestyle and communicate a way of life to your audience that they will find inspiring and will convince them to follow your channel and eventually become a loyal customer.

For instance, if you have a coaching business, then you need to portray a lifestyle that’s full of positive energy and abundance and that makes you appear as someone who can help your clients change their lives for the better. On the other hand, if you have a fashion brand, then you need to show people that you’re put together and looking beautiful, thereby selling them the dream that your products will do the same for them.

So, the BIG question is… how do you sell the dream?

With Instagram it’s all about the details

When it comes to painting a picture with your Instagram pictures, it’s important that you pay attention to even the smallest details. You image need to communicate a successful business. No one wants to buy from someone who looks unprofessional or seems as though they can’t get their own act together!

  • Keep in mind that it’s the tiny things you forget that can indicate the most about you and your brand.

For example, if you are taking photos of your physical product to make it look more attractive on Instagram, then you need to think about the condition of the packaging as well as the props and the stetting. While you may have the most fantastic product on the planet, if there is a coffee stain and some cookie crumbs on the table next to it then it won’t matter. Your audience will only see the mess.

Tell a story with your photos

Think about the small details in your photo and how can indicate other things about yourself and your business. Think about the story you are telling through the things that are present or absent in your images.

For example, you can share a photo of yourself running in the rain, or you can take a photo of your running shoes covered in mud with your water bottle next to them for effect. In just a few words, this is telling your audience that you’ve just been on a run and it says something about your determination and your love of fitness.

When you leave the viewer to fill in the blanks, it can often have a bigger impact than if you come right out and attempt to ‘say’ something with your photo.

Love those filters

Instagram is all about the filters! It's one of the things that makes it so well suited for marketing. A filter can increase the saturation and contrast in a photo, thereby making a sunny location look that much brighter and more vivid. There are all kinds of fun filters that can make your photo look more appealing to your followers with the tap of your finger.

When you’re using filters, think about the emotions you want to evoke and then tweak your photo to inspire a reaction from your followers! Just remember that even if they know it isn’t true to life, it’s all about the way it makes them feel.

Hello and welcome to this week’s Monday Minutes. Each week in this series I am going to share simple tips and advice that you can implement quickly to help your business become more successful.

Monday Minutes

This week’s tip is all about improving email open rates with foreshadowing. We are going to talk about enticing your readers with a hint of what’s coming next.

Do your email open rates leave you scratching your head and wondering why people aren't excited to see what you have to say?

When it comes to keeping, your readers coming back for more there are plenty of tried and true strategies that you can try. One of my favorites is a little technique called foreshadowing and when you use in your email campaigns it can definitely help improve your open rates.

Chances are you’ve seen this used on news programs and talk shows. Right before the commercial break, the hosts announce what’s coming up next. They do this to keep you intrigued enough to sit through the commercial to see the next segment.

Another good example of foreshadowing...whats-next

is when magazines show images and headlines or short bullets of what’s coming in next month’s issue. Again, the point is to pique your interest and get you to either buy the next issue, or even better, buy a subscription.

This technique can be easily adapted for email marketing and it works like crazy. Towards the end of your email add a line or two about what’s coming in your next email.  Make sure to be vague, saying just enough to grab the reader’s attention.

money-tableFor instance, if you’re talking about why content marketing is so important and the next email is about content strategies to generate traffic, you may write something like this: “Keep an eye out for Monday’s email. We’ll talk about THE most important thing when it comes to an effective content marketing strategy. If you don’t get this right, you’re leaving money on the table.”

This works great if you publish a weekly newsletter. You can even try adding a section on what’s coming in the next issue like you see in many magazines. Keep it simple and whenever possible use images that draw attention to improve your results.

You can even take it a step further and get your subscribers to open a previously sent email. This works particularly well if you’re writing a series of emails on a related topic. Towards the beginning of your email mention something you covered in the last email, then move into today’s topic and then wrap it up with a little hint about what’s coming next.curious-reader

You don’t have to use foreshadowing in every single email. Use it when and where it makes sense. It also gives you a chance to pick up on in the subject line of your next email. Try using something like “As promised…” Even readers who missed your last email might be curious enough to open and see what you have for them.

When you begin using this technique make sure that you track and test your results, so you can tell if you are getting higher open rates and more importantly increased subscriber engagement.

Make sure you look for next week's Monday Minutes. We will be talking more about how to use Instagram to grow your business!  See what I did there? 😉 😉

Hello and welcome to this week’s Monday Minutes. Each week in this series I am going to share simple tips and advice that you can implement quickly to help your business become more successful.

Monday Minutes

This week’s tip is all about becoming more confident in your business!

Many small business owners struggle with low self-confidence, especially when they’re first starting out. Low confidence can destroy your dreams and hold you back from the success you crave. Today I want to talk to you about three of the ways that low confidence might be impacting your business:

Your income level is “stuck”.

You’re not making as much as you want to and you’re not sure why. Many money issues often come back to a lack of confidence. It might be that you’re not asking your clients to pay what you’re really worth or it might be that you won’t launch higher-ticket products for fear no one will purchase them.

Developing your confidence is one way to boost your income. As your confidence increases, customers and clients will be even more attracted to your business. This can create a cycle of increasing confidence along with increasing income.

Accepting the wrong clients.

Clients know when your confidence is low. While most of them won’t take advantage of this, there are some that will. These clients will be demanding and may try to haggle with you over price or convince you to do extra work for them.

Don’t give into the pressure from bad clients. As your confidence grows, start looking for clients that will see you for the skilled professional you are.

You play small.

When you lack confidence, you don’t let yourself shine. Then you end up missing out on opportunities that you really wanted to take like appearing as a guest on a podcast or participating in a joint venture with a business owner you admire.

Playing small may feel safer but it can severely limit the growth of your business. Try challenging yourself to take one small risk each week. As time goes by, you’ll find it gets easier to own your awesomeness.

The good news is that low confidence doesn’t have to mean the end of your business. Learning about mindset and working to improve yours can help you develop the confidence you need to build a successful business.

Hello and welcome to this week’s Monday Minutes. Each week in this series I am going to share simple tips and advice that you can implement quickly to help your business become more successful.

Monday Minutes

This week’s tip is all about  Finding your audience, figuring out what they want and giving it to them.

Effective marketing boils down to this: Finding an audience then figuring out what they want or need and then delivering it. Keep in mind that it isn’t always about selling them a product. In fact, that isn’t where you want to start.

Once you determine who and where your audience is then you start building an email list and cultivate a relationship with them. That's when the magic starts to happen. You want them to get to know you. You want to help them out so they learn to like you and trust you. Only then will you be able to make an offer and have them pull out their wallets.

A good place to start is by paying attention to your website stats. Programs like Google Analytics can provide you with a lot of information like where your readers came from, what page the landed on and where they were on your site when they joined your list. That data along with demographic information will tell you a lot about your audience.

As your list grows and you start to email your readers, they will reply and get back in touch with you. Pay attention to what they’re saying. And don’t forget to read between the lines. Let’s say you’re in the parenting niche and you noticed that some of your readers are asking for suggestions on being a more patient parent. They complain about being short temperate and freaking out about little things. The real issue may be lack of sleep because the baby or toddler isn’t sleeping through the night.

Dig deep and see what you can learn about your market!

Sometimes what they tell you they want isn’t the real issue. On the flip side, it can be helpful to ask them for suggestions. Try to keep the questions open ended that way you will get more information to work with.

Better yet, consider having your readers fill out a simple little survey. It’s quick and easy to do with Google forms or Survey Monkey. When you ask the right type of questions you'll get some great insight into what your readers really want and what they are willing to pay for. Giving them a way to interact with you will also contribute to the relationship.

Last but not least go back and look at the past emails you’ve sent. Pay attention to open rates, click through rates and unsubscribes. If a large percentage of readers opened the email, that’s a good indication they were interested in the topic. If they clicked link to additional content, that’s even better. If on the other hand you got a lot of unsubscribes, that might be an indication that either the topic was wrong or your language and overall message didn’t click with your audience.

Use all the information you collect to learn more about your audience and connect with them on a deeper level. The more you know about your subscribers, the more effective your email marketing will be and the more sales you will make.

Hello and welcome to this week’s Monday Minutes. Each week in this series I am going to share simple tips and advice that you can implement quickly to help your business become more successful.

Monday Minutes

This week’s tip is all about building your email list!

You've probably heard more than one marketer talk about how the money is in your list and that you have to have build one if you want your business to be profitable, but do you really understand the real value in list building for your own business?mailing list

You do your research and decide to promote a specific product that offers a nice commission. Then you do a little test campaign, make a few sales and decide it’s a winner so you set up a website dedicated to just this one product. You spend time and money promoting it all over the place and a steady stream of sales starts to come in. All you focus on is driving traffic to your affiliate link, because it’s profitable.

Then one morning you wake up and find out that your income stream has dried up and affiliate marketing gone bustpayments have stopped and you have no idea what happened. You do a little digging, contact the company only to find out they have stopped selling that product, quit using affiliates or have completely gone out of business without any warning or notice at all!

Even though you may have sold hundreds of products to happy customers you have no idea who they are and how to contact them. Your income stream literally and completely disappeared over night leaving you back a t square one. Can you guess why?

Yes, it's because you didn't build your email list!

Now let’s look at this from a new perspective. You go through the entire process, pick a product, build a website and market it everywhere only this time you take it one-step further by adding a landing page with an opt-in form.

optin form example
"This little is form is your golden ticket to contact people who are interested in the types of products you are promoting"

All you have to do is get them to fill it out!

As visitors arrive on your site, you can lure them in with valuable information to presell the product or service you're promoting. You can do this by offering them a little gift as enticement in exchange for submitting the form. This could be a video review or a short report with more information about the product or an extra bonus if they purchase through your link.

These people are then added to your own private mailing list, separate from the company you're promoting and you can feel free to contact them anytime you have new information to share.

???????????????????????????????????????Now when you wake up to the news that your product is no longer available, the affiliate program is gone or the business has gone bust then you don’t worry about losing your customers, you simply replace product A with product a new similar product B. Then send out an email telling all your subscribers that you’ve discovered this great product that they will love.

Another great thing about building you list is that you can develop a lasting relationship with email profits your customers by emailing them regularly and providing them with great information. Once they know, like and trust you they will gladly follow your recommendations, which is one of the best ways to ensure a continuous stream of income for your business.

Hopefully this little post has helped you understand the importance of building your
email list!

Why not start yours today?

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
Happy list building,
